Dark Side of The Harbour book cover by Jennifer Bacia

Dark Side of the Harbour

1963. Sydney was changing – and so were the rules.

It’s the swinging sixties and staid, conservative Australia is waking to the excitement of new music, new fashion, new freedoms – and a growing sense of danger.

When country girl Rose meets glamorous Margot, both are swept into the seductive world of Kings Cross – a place of glittering nights, wealthy social circles and Europeans haunted by war.

Rose falls for the quiet, enigmatic Stefan, while Margot, ignoring every warning, sets her sights on Sydney’s most eligible bachelor.

Then a series of murders shocks the Northern Beaches.

More than twenty-five years later, a sensational media investigation reopens the case, stirring old suspicions from Palm Beach to Avalon. As the past begins to surface, some people will do anything to keep it buried.

Others are finally ready to talk…

Dark Side of the Harbour is a gripping suspense novel of love, betrayal and friendship, set against the backdrop of a city and society on the brink of change.

What Readers are Saying

  • A wonderful novel with equal parts of love, grief and redemption, and the opening pages set up a plot that is hard to put down. Jennifer showcases her knowledge of Post-war Australia as we follow the adventures of two young women in 1960’s Sydney. They form an enduring friendship with two Polish immigrants and the relationships take many twists and turns. I found this book heartbreaking as well as beautifully uplifting – and reading about Jennifer’s Polish father (her inspiration for the book) made it even more memorable. Definitely add this book to your must-read list!

  • I’ve always been a fan of Jennifer Bacia’s novels and the latest one has all the ingredients I love in her work. An absolutely gripping suspense story with a twist around every corner. But while her books are very entertaining, Jennifer always manages to go much deeper. It was especially fascinating to read about Australia in the sixties when so much began to change. Jennifer really made that era come alive. I learnt a lot from this story. I read this book in one sitting and really didn’t want it to end. You won’t be disappointed by this gripping read.
